Together, We’re Making a Difference
This year, the Second Street School PTSA has been hard at work enhancing the experience of both students and staff. Thanks to the support of our members, volunteers, and community partners, we’re proud to celebrate these accomplishments:
Character Strong Partnership
We teamed up with the school’s councils to provide custom keychains supporting the Character Strong curriculum. Each month, one student from every class is recognized for exemplifying the character word of the month and receives a certificate and keychain honoring their achievement.
School Resources
We purchased a new laminator to help teachers and staff prepare classroom materials that last, saving time and reducing costs for our educators.
Fundraising and Partnerships
Through our partners and fundraising efforts, we’ve been able to purchase a commercial refrigerator for the FoodPrints classroom and a commercial fan for the gymnasium, enhancing both learning and activity spaces for students.
Making a Splash to Kick Off the 2025 School Year
In July, the SSS PTSA hosted a back-to-school pool party for all Second Street School families at the Juniper Hills Aquatic Center. Families were welcomed with pizza, cupcakes, and drinks as we celebrated the start of a new school year together. With approximately 400 people in attendance, the event was a fantastic turnout filled with fun, connection, and excitement, setting a positive and joyful tone for the year ahead.
Paper Drive Success
Thanks to your generosity, we raised enough funds to purchase three pallets of paper—nearly enough to supply the entire school for the year! This ensures teachers have the resources they need to focus on what matters most: our students.
Fall Door Decorating Contest
We sponsored prizes for the Fall Door Decorating Contest, including ice cream sundae parties for winning classrooms and wish list items for the teachers of the top doors. The event brought creativity, teamwork, and school spirit to the hallways of SSS!
Community Engagement
With your help, the PTSA sponsored a table at the BETA Club’s Trunk or Treat, creating a fun and festive experience for students and families while supporting another great school-led initiative.
Community Partnership with our Frankfort Lowe’s Hometown Heroes
Partnering with Lowe’s Hometown Heroes, we enhanced the front entrance of Second Street School and added picnic table seating for an outdoor classroom, along with additional seating on the playground. This project improves both the school’s curb appeal and its learning spaces for students.
Spreading Holiday Cheer Throughout the Halls
This holiday season, the SSS PTSA helped fill our school with warmth, cheer, and community spirit through festive, spirit-lifting decorations throughout the hallways. Each hallway was uniquely themed—Whoville, Tree Farm, North Pole, Peppermint Forest, Gingerbread, Polar Express, Charlie Brown & Friends, and Penguins and Polar Bears—creating a joyful experience for students and staff as they moved through the school each day. These decorations were more than just seasonal touches; they reflected the heart of our PTSA’s mission to support our school, celebrate togetherness, and make SSS a joyful place to learn and work during the busiest time of year.
Giving Thanks: Supporting Our FIS Families
This year, the SSS PTSA proudly raised funds, and with the help of Frankfort Kroger East, was able to provide turkeys and hams to 100 FIS families, helping ensure that more of our school community could enjoy a warm and meaningful holiday meal. This effort reflects the PTSA’s ongoing commitment to caring for our families and supporting students beyond the classroom. By coming together to meet a real need, our community demonstrated the true spirit of generosity and compassion that defines SSS.
Sharing the Magic of The Nutcracker
Thanks to the efforts of a dedicated PTSA member, a limited number of tickets to the Louisville Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker were secured for our school community. To ensure fairness and equal opportunity, the tickets were offered through a schoolwide lottery, giving all families a chance to participate on a first-come, first-served basis. This special opportunity allowed students and families to experience a beloved holiday tradition and reflects the PTSA’s commitment to creating inclusive, memorable experiences for our entire SSS community.
Staff Appreciation
We’ve shown gratitude to our amazing staff throughout the year with small tokens of appreciation and fun treats—like celebrating National Candy Apple Day with sweet surprises! These gestures remind our educators how valued they are by the SSS community.
Stay Tuned—More to Come!
We have even more exciting initiatives and accomplishments on the horizon—our best work is yet to come! The SSS PTSA has partnered with the Lexington Philharmonic to provide a special performance for all 4th grade students at the Singletary Center. Beginning in January, students in grades 1–4 will participate in a pen pal exchange with another local elementary school to encourage connection, communication, and community-building. Our middle school students are scheduled to learn about the dangers of energy drinks, as well as participate in Autism Awareness programming. We are also working to bring additional art and educational enrichment opportunities to students across all grade levels. We will close out the school year in June with a visit from the Kentucky Agriculture Mobile Science Center—a big hit with students and staff last year!
